Pip value calculator: what is one pip worth?

A pip is the small unit a price moves in. This calculator shows how much money one pip moves your account, so you understand what a 10, 20 or 50-pip move really means.

1.00 = standard lot, 0.10 = mini lot, 0.01 = micro lot.
Value of 1 pipUSD 1.00

Every pip EUR/USD moves in your favour earns about USD 1.00, and every pip against you costs the same. A 10-pip move is USD 10.00.

How to use the pip value calculator

  1. Pick your account currency.
  2. Choose what you are trading.
  3. Type your trade size in lots (0.01 is the smallest trade at most brokers).
  4. Read the value of one pip, and use the table to compare micro, mini and standard lots.

Example: EUR/USD on a USD account

  • 1 pip on EUR/USD is a move of 0.0001.
  • 0.0001 × 100,000 units = $10 per pip on 1.00 lot, $1 on 0.10, $0.10 on 0.01.
  • A 30-pip move on 0.10 lots is therefore about $30.

Questions

What is a pip?

For most pairs a pip is the fourth decimal (0.0001). For pairs with the Japanese yen it is the second decimal (0.01).

What is a pip on gold?

Brokers differ. We count $0.10 as one pip on gold, which makes one pip worth $10 on a 1.00 lot of 100 ounces. Check your broker's contract specification.

Why does the pip value change?

When the profit currency of the pair is not your account currency, the pip value is converted at the current exchange rate, so it moves a little every day.
