How to deposit and withdraw with a forex broker

M-Pesa in Kenya, rand EFT in South Africa, naira cards and dollar accounts in Nigeria. What each method costs, how long it takes, and the payment tricks scammers use.

5 rules before your first deposit

  1. 1
    Pay only the company

The account, paybill or wallet must belong to the broker's licensed company. A person's phone number, a personal bank account or a crypto address sent in a chat is a red flag.

  2. 2
Same way in, same way out

Most brokers send withdrawals back to the method you used to deposit, up to the amount deposited. Plan your withdrawal before your first deposit.

  3. 3
    Test a small withdrawal first

Deposit a small amount, make one trade or none, and withdraw. If that is slow or blocked, do not add more.

  4. 4
    Never pay to withdraw

A licensed broker does not ask for a fee, a tax or a new deposit to release your money. That is the most common scam.

  5. 5
    Keep every receipt

Save M-Pesa messages, bank and card statements and transaction IDs. You need them for a chargeback or a complaint.

Questions about deposits and withdrawals

Can I deposit with M-Pesa to a forex broker?

Yes, several CMA-licensed brokers accept M-Pesa, including Exness, HFM, XM and FXPesa according to published broker reviews. Pay only the paybill or till number shown inside your broker account.

What is the M-Pesa limit for a forex deposit?

KES 250,000 per transaction and KES 500,000 per day, per Safaricom's tariff page in August 2026. Your broker may set its own minimum and maximum.

Why is my withdrawal going back to my card?

Anti-money-laundering rules make most brokers return money to the method you deposited with, up to the deposit amount. Profits above that usually go by bank transfer or e-wallet.

Do I need SARS approval to fund an offshore broker?

Not within the single discretionary allowance (R2 million per year from 2026). Larger amounts need a tax clearance under the foreign investment allowance. Ask a tax practitioner about your case.

Is it safe to pay a broker through a payment agent?

It is risky. If the money goes to a person's account, you have no regulator protection and little chance of getting it back. Use the broker's own company account.
